How to View Students’ Discussion Statistics in Blackboard

You might want to view a quick summary of all students’ contributions to the Discussion Board and access a collection page displaying all an individual student’s posts in the specific forum. You use the Performance Dashboard tool to achieve these purposes.

  1. Login to Blackboard course.
  2. In the “Control Panel,” click Evaluation, and select Performance Dashboard.
  3. On the “Performance Dashboard” page, under the “Discussion Board” column, you can view how many forums a student posted.  Select a numbered link to view details for a specific student.
  4. The following information appears on the Discussion Board page for the specific student.
    • Forum: Lists all the forums a student has posted in.
    • Total Posts: Select the link to access a page displaying a student’s posts in that forum.
    • Date of Last Post: View when a student last accessed the forum.
    • Average Post Length: Lists the average post length, in the number of characters.
    • Minimum Post Length: Lists the minimum post length, in the number of characters.
    • Maximum Post Length: Lists the maximum post length, in the number of characters.
    • Average Post Position: View a representation of a student’s participation within the threads.
    • Grade: Select the link in the column to access the Grade Center column if a grade appears.
  5. In the “Forum” column, select a forum title to access a collection page displaying all the student’s posts in that forum.
