How to Link/Embed OneDrive File to a Canvas Assignment

Canvas has a LTI integration with UH Microsoft OneDrive, allowing instructors to link and embed OneDrive files within Canvas. The following steps show how to link or embed a OneDrive file to an assignment.

Option I:  Link OneDrive File

  1. Click on Assignments link in Course Navigation.
  2. Select +Assignment.
  3. Enter an assignment name.
  4. To link an Office file, select the “Power Plug” icon in the Content Editor and select Microsoft OneDrive.
    Note: For the first time, Microsoft OneDrive may not show up. In that case, you can choose View All and select Microsoft OneDrive from the popup.
  5. In the OneDrive file picker, select the file you want to serve as the assignment.
  6. Click Link.
  7. A message shows that you have successfully uploaded the file.
  8. The OneDrive file link is shown in the Content Editor.
  9. Enter information for other assignment options, such as Points, Submission group, Submission attempts. and Assign, then click Save or Save & Publish.

Option II: Embed OneDrive File

  1. Click on Assignments link in Course Navigation.
  2. Select +Assignment.
  3. Enter an assignment name.

  6. Click Embed.
  7. A message shows that you have successfully uploaded the file.
  8. The OneDrive file is embedded in the Content Editor.
  9. Enter information for other assignment options, such as Points, Submission group, Submission attempts. and Assign, then click Save or Save & Publish.
